Seniors apply to college as early as July of their high school senior year.

Some colleges require a letter of recommendation for your counselor. Please fill out this information, schedule an appointment with your counselor, and provide a resume to your counselor at least 2 in-session weeks prior to needing the letter of recommendation. Please note that counselors are on break when you are on break, so all letters of recommendation needed after break need to be submitted at least 2 weeks prior to break.

Basha recommends that you take the PSAT as practice in the fall of your sophomore year and then again in the fall of your junior year as part of the National Merit Qualifying exam. We recommend the PSAT 8/9 for all freshmen. Please go to the Testing Folder on this site for information from Mr. Unger.

Basha recommends that you take the ACT in the spring of your junior year, when Basha offers it for free. You may choose to take the ACT on your own or the SAT as well. To date we have never heard of any US college/university requiring one test over the other. Please note also at this time not all colleges/universities require a score to be submitted; with that stated we strongly encourage you to do your best on either exam in the event a future college/university you are applying to does require a score. In-State Community Colleges

Chandler Gilbert Community College Rep Krysten Marshall will be in the Career Center Tuesday/Thursday 7 AM-3 PM weekly to assist with all questions pertaining to MCCCD.

To be admitted to an AZ community college, your student needs to go to the admissions office of the community college with their transcript, driver's license, form of payment, and take a placement exam. This process may take up to 2 1/2 hours. We recommend calling ahead to see what the wait looks like.

New Presidential Scholarship qualifications for Maricopa Community College District:

Minimum 3.25 core weighted or un-weighted GPA-- apply online through the Maricopa Community College of your choice for the Presidential Scholarship. No longer are certain scores on the Accuplacer needed to earn this scholarship. Students must fill out the Presidential Scholarship paperwork either with their college or in our Career Center. This is not an automatic scholarship, it must still have the paperwork completed. Students earning this scholarship are required to take 1 honor course per semester and maintain a 3.25 with at least 12 credits per semester for the two years they attend the community college.

What is the Accuplacer for? The Accuplacer is to place you in the appropriate curriculum based on your acquired knowledge. Be more prepared for the Accuplacer by taking the workshop Accuplacer Ready. This Fall, the three universities in AZ offer both in-person and virtual events for students to connect with their public universities. Students, families and supporters had the opportunity for Tri-University Virtual Week: September 6 - 10. Then, students and guests may tour each of the campuses for Tri-University In-Person programming!

These sessions are geared toward providing your students in-depth information about their public universities, the admission process, and the robust opportunities available to them in Arizona.

ASU

Honors College is Test Blind--this means your ACT or SAT will not be considered in Honors Admission.

Arizona State University will use the 6th semester core GPA when considering all scholarships. A student may request a review of scholarship with the 7th semester transcript.

NAU

Northern Arizona State University

NAU Honors is Test Optional--this means your SAT or ACT scores may improve your Honors status.

NAU LUMBERJACK SCHOLARSHIP CHANGES FOR 2022-2023

Students should list their best core classes when they apply (AM AZ history must be one of the two credits for social science reported.
NAU will use the 6th semester core GPA when considering the Lumberjack. A student may request a review of scholarship with the 7th semester transcript with prior knowledge of this plan emailed to the rep.

NAU will continue the Lumberjack Scholars Award. The criteria require students to have a 3.75 unweighted core GPA, no deficiencies, and no course grade below a B.

Additional Scholarships from NAU

NAU will automatically evaluate students for a merit-based scholarship after they have been admitted to Northern Arizona University. These scholarships are renewable for up to four years if students meet the renewal criteria.

NAU has also added a new Dean’s with Distinction Scholarship that will be awarded for an unweighted core GPA of 3.4-3.49 and valued at $6,500 per year.

NAU will continue to offer the President’s Scholarship for $9,000, Dean’s Scholarship for $5,000 to $6,500, and the Opportunity Scholarship for $2,500. Criteria can be found on the NAU website.

Students could request a new scholarship evaluation using their 7th semester grades if they have a significant change to their GPA, but no scholarship evaluations will be completed using final semester grades.
