Freshmen

Freshmen

Welcome to Basha High class of 2020!

You should be settling in with your classes now. All schedule changes will be done by Friday, 7-24.

Pay attention to this site every two weeks once school begins.

Freshmen Units are coming!  August 19 and August 20!  This is where the counseling department presents to all freshmen through their in-person English class. If they do not have an in-person English class please have them join us during their COA time so they do not miss out.

What is done in the unit?

1. Learn what is required to graduate in 4 years.

2. Learn what is required to go to a 4 year university directly from high school vs. a community college vs. a trade school vs. right to work.

3. Learn how to enter the 4 year academic plan--believe it or not, this is how the schedule for sophomore year is created so this is very important unless you want the counselor to choose all the classes!

4. Find out about Chandler Education Foundation scholarship--see IMPACT Scholars folder on the left.

Freshman families,

The Freshman family meetings are coming up on 8-5 and 8-24.

What is the Freshman family meeting?

These are very important meetings where we are covering the following topics that you and your child need to understand in order for your child to have a successful high school experience and to ensure they are on track for graduation:

  1. Education Career and College Action Plan
  2. 4-Year Academic Plan in Infinite Campus
  3. Grad Tracker - New Electronic Credit Check System

The meetings are on google meets.

Here are the two times, dates, and links for the meetings:

8-5, 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.

8-24, 3:00-4:00 p.m.

meet.google.com/mas-dbet-gvx

Please email your counselor if you have any questions about these meetings.

We are presenting this information to student in classes on August 19th and August 20th.

We look forward to seeing you on one of these dates and times.

Thanks,

Basha Counseling Team

Can't get into IC?

Information for resetting passwords was sent through Parent Square. Infinite Campus password must be reset before you are able to access Gmail, etc.

Below are instructions. Please read in its entirety.

7th-12th (and 6th grade at AJHS, ACPMS, and Basha Middle School)

Pattern: Birthdate (MMDDYY format) first initial (lowercase) + last initial (lowercase)

Example: sophomore Ani Smith whose birthday is October 3, 2007 will have their password reset to 100307as

7-12 students will be forced to change their password after it is reset

Students can change their Microsoft password by either:

All 2nd-12th grade students must change their Microsoft default password before accessing Infinite Campus.

Information that remains constant

Infinite Campus Portal

Parents can view their schedule in the Infinite Campus portal and students were sent an email giving them a temporary ID. Number and password in the event they have forgotten the one they changed it to last year. We strongly recommend parents print off grades every Wednesday to share with their student and then again on Friday to ensure any missing work was made up.

Username: S+IDnumber

pw: s+IDnumber!

Helpful Hints

Summer school is a great way to replace a failing grade or do grade improvement.  Students may also wish to take physical education or comprehensive health to open up their schedule for more elective opportunities.  Counseling strongly recommends retaking Algebra 1 for any advanced 8th graders that are not earning a solid A without retakes, so they have a smooth transition into Honors Geometry.  Counseling also recommends taking 1.0 credit of physical education for students who want to participate in more than two electives their freshman year.  Counseling also recommends taking comprehensive health in summer school so during the sophomore year this does not get in the way of full year elective choices.  Summer school costs approximately $181 per semester with a 2-semester limit for courses.

Neat Backpack!
Neat bedroom!
Complete all HW--the number one problem Freshmen experience is low grades due to HW!
Be present! Attendance is the number one key to your success.
Be on time! Your tardiness interrupts the learning of others, so please remember to be kind.
If you are absent have a parent call Attendance at 480-224-2103, request missing work from teachers the next day you are present, and make up all missing work within the allotted time frame.  For every consecutive day of an excused absence, you have one day to make up all missing work.
Go to sleep before 10 PM daily!
Get involved!
Do not post anything on social media that you cannot tell your parent about or that could hurt your chances of employment.  For your generation social media is a permanent timestamp.  Do not text or email anything you would not say in person.  Always remember texts and emails have no tone of voice so be cautious how others may perceive what you are writing.  Avoid Freshmen drama!

Student Grade Access

How to check your student's grades:

All students need to reset their Infinite Campus portal access code each year.
Step 1:  enter user ID, S123456 (s and their personal student ID number)
Step 2:  enter password, s123456! (! after their ID number and s must be lower case)
--Criteria for password is 8 letters with number(s).  Please choose a password student will remember.
Also, register on Inifinite Campus so that students may reset their own passwords if needed.
