Freshmen

Freshmen

Quarter 4 is upon us!

Keep up on all HW! Be present, both body and mind daily! If grade replacement or improvement is needed see the alpha counselor for summer school options.

Registration is now complete. Hopefully, early May a student may see their counselor to view their schedule for next year--please keep in mind that the schedules are not set in stone and administration works on leveling during the month of June when counselors are not on contract. There is no way to lock in a request or lock in a specific teacher.

We hope all freshmen get involved this year to have what will soon become an amazing four years as a bear!

The club fair was August 20th and 21st under the breezeway between the C and F buildings during all three lunches. We hoped your student got to visit with the clubs. We recommend two clubs freshman year! Visit our Activities website.

Are you aware that your student may qualify for a diploma seal?  These applications begin in the freshman year so please go to the CUSD website:  Teaching and Learning:  Curriculum and Instruction:  Diploma Seals. As of now, there are 4 seals a student may earn for their diploma. Each seal has its own requirements, so please read carefully.   Some have deadlines for intent to participate coming very quickly so please don't procrastinate.

PAST NEWS--Below are all of the past items the counseling department has completed with the freshmen.

Freshmen were already trained on how to register in Infinite Campus for next year's schedule.

Freshmen Credit Checks were through in -person World History on Feb 4th and 5th. All freshmen without and in-person World history class should have seen their counselor Feb 6th. Reminders were sent via the counselor's Google Classroom.

Registration closed Feb 13th. Once the student and counselor met the counselor they locked in all requests and a parent/student cannot change without emailing the counselor.

Counselors met with all freshmen through World History to finalize the 4-year plan early in November. If you do not have an in-person world history class, failed to do this assignment, or were absent the student needed to do this on their own time.

Go to this link to work on your 4-year plan in Infinite Campus today! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kR6jVoUaJ8icHhuwb_AsjntJzmboFy-q/view?usp=sharing  to add onto your junior year request now.

Freshman Units were August 27th and 28th and went through your in-person English class. If a student does not have an in-person English class, they were asked to come to the auditorium at the beginning of the period where the COA English class was scheduled. Click this slide show to see what was presented.

Considering attending EVIT for the junior year?  Talk with the counselor about adding US History with Chandler Online Academy to the sophomore schedule!

The most common thing that freshmen do that leads to a rough year is they don't keep up on the HW. Complete all HW, have daily attendance and all should be great as a freshman!

Students are encouraged not to wait until feeling lost before reaching out. Look at your grades every Wednesday in Infinite Campus. If a discrepancy seems apparent, talk to the teacher immediately. Every Friday we want students to feel safe with the grade in IC.

For tutoring times please click on Tutoring.

Get involved beginning the freshman year! It is a great time to be a bear!

Can't get into IC?

Information for resetting passwords was sent through Parent Square. Infinite Campus password must be reset before you are able to access Gmail, etc.

Below are instructions. Please read in its entirety.

7th-12th (and 6th grade at AJHS, ACPMS, and Basha Middle School)

Pattern: Birthdate (MMDDYY format) first initial (lowercase) + last initial (lowercase)

Example: sophomore Ani Smith whose birthday is October 3, 2007 will have their password reset to 100307as

7-12 students will be forced to change their password after it is reset

Students can change their Microsoft password by either:

All 2nd-12th grade students must change their Microsoft default password before accessing Infinite Campus.

Information that remains constant

Infinite Campus Portal

Parents can view their schedule in the Infinite Campus portal and students were sent an email giving them a temporary ID. Number and password in the event they have forgotten the one they changed it to last year. We strongly recommend parents print off grades every Wednesday to share with their student and then again on Friday to ensure any missing work was made up.

Username: S+IDnumber

pw: s+IDnumber!

Helpful Hints

Summer school is a great way to replace a failing grade or do grade improvement.  Students may also wish to take physical education or comprehensive health to open up their schedule for more elective opportunities.  Counseling strongly recommends retaking Algebra 1 for any advanced 8th graders that are not earning a solid A without retakes, so they have a smooth transition into Honors Geometry.  Counseling also recommends taking 1.0 credit of physical education for students who want to participate in more than two electives their freshman year.  Counseling also recommends taking comprehensive health in summer school so during the sophomore year this does not get in the way of full year elective choices.  Summer school costs approximately $181 per semester with a 2-semester limit for courses.

Neat Backpack!
Neat bedroom!
Complete all HW--the number one problem Freshmen experience is low grades due to HW!
Be present! Attendance is the number one key to your success.
Be on time! Your tardiness interrupts the learning of others, so please remember to be kind.
If you are absent have a parent call Attendance at 480-224-2103, request missing work from teachers the next day you are present, and make up all missing work within the allotted time frame.  For every consecutive day of an excused absence, you have one day to make up all missing work.
Go to sleep before 10 PM daily!
Get involved!
Do not post anything on social media that you cannot tell your parent about or that could hurt your chances of employment.  For your generation social media is a permanent timestamp.  Do not text or email anything you would not say in person.  Always remember texts and emails have no tone of voice so be cautious how others may perceive what you are writing.  Avoid Freshmen drama!

Student Grade Access

How to check your student's grades:

All students need to reset their Infinite Campus portal access code each year.
Step 1:  enter user ID, S123456 (s and their personal student ID number)
Step 2:  enter password, s123456! (! after their ID number and s must be lower case)
--Criteria for password is 8 letters with number(s).  Please choose a password student will remember.
Also, register on Inifinite Campus so that students may reset their own passwords if needed.
