Seniors

Welcome to Senior Year!

Seniors

Welcome back!!! Please visit this site every two weeks to learn what the Counseling Dept is doing with your student!

This year your Senior Unit will not be in person. The unit is in your counselor's Google Classroom in the style of a Google Slide show.

You should view this with your parent/guardian and ask your own counselor any questions you have.

Here is the link https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1vHfnd3qFmyU0RQ8UZMDaSBxQ0HAV5POR-cr8LX_eBiI/edit?usp=sharing.

Dual Enrollment

Just because you are enrolled in a dual credit class at BHS that does not mean you will earn dual credit.

You must apply and register and pay the fees to earn the credit.

See all of these attachments for help.

Ms. Marshall is in C106 every Tues and Thurs and every other Friday to help with this process.

There are strict deadlines so you must be aware and read the attached!!!!

Senior Credit Checks were through you in person English week 2 on Wednesday, July 22 and Thursday, July 23. If you do not have an in-person English class you were to see your counselor to be cleared for graduation!

News that stays constant__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Parchment Directions  click on this to learn how to send official directions. This is also in your counselor's Google Classroom.

New news in from UofA!  An application essay is now necessary. Please visit UofA for more information.

Common App is a site students may be able to utilize if they are applying to more than one college. Loop in your counselor using lastname.firstname@cusd80.com. You must tag your counselor as a recommender.  If you need a letter of recommendation, please send your counselor a resume or senior brag sheet and be specific which college(s) you need a letter written to. If it is for Common App, it will be addressed To Whom It May Concern and all the colleges using that format will find it easily.

All colleges/universities in the US take either the ACT or SAT if they require a testing score. When you all took the ACT last spring you should have listed 4 colleges you wanted your scores to be sent to. If you did not do that, you must go to the act website and submit individual requests for a fee per college.

All juniors were to take the Civics exam. If you have not passed it please register with Mr. Unger to take it this year as it is required for graduation.

Here is a link to a practice exam: Research and Assessment / Civics Exam (cusd80.com)

As soon as you struggle in any class, ask your teacher when their tutor times are.  Check out our Tutor folder here or see all tutor opportunities in your counselor's Google Classroom. Don't wait until you are feeling lost before you reach out. You should look at your grades every Wednesday in Infinite Campus. If you see a discrepancy, talk to your teacher immediately. Every Friday we want you to feel safe with the grade you are earning and viewing in IC.

Grades

Infinite Campus Portal

Parents can view their student's schedule in the Infinite Campus portal. Students were sent an email giving them a temporary ID. Number and password in the event they cannot remember the password they chose last year.

Username: S+IDnumber

pw: s+IDnumber!

Student Grade Access

How to check your student's grades:

All students need to reset their Infinite Campus portal access code each year.
Step 1:  enter user ID, S123456 (s and their personal student ID number)
Step 2:  enter password, s123456! (! after their ID number and s must be lower case)
--Criteria for password is 8 letters with number(s).  Please choose a password student will remember.
Also, register on Inifinite Campus so that students may reset their own passwords if needed.

How to figure a core GPA

There is no report your counselor can run to give this to you, so this must be done by hand--it is truly just finding the averages of numbers

The core classes are:

4 Eng

4 math

3 lab science

2 Social studies must include AM AZ history plus either world history or govt/econ combo

1 CTE or fine art—a student must research if any out of state universities require a fine art—for AZ either is accepted

2 foreign languages—some colleges, at this moment, are not requiring the  foreign languages, some require 3 years—a student must research if any out of state university requires a  foreign languages

For instance, 16 classes would mean 32 semester grades. Grade point value is as follows:

A= 4

B= 3

C= 2

D = 1

Then you find the mean or average. No weight may be applied for college admissions so even an honors A = 4.

If you will be needing a letter of recommendation we need a resume and this form completed at least 2 school weeks in advance for us to write a quality letter. We are not on contract during your breaks so please plan accordingly. Check to see if your counselor prefers to even write a generic one early on with the ability to fine tune in an emergency!
