Mindfulness Room

Welcome to the Mindfulness Room at Basha High School! This room was created to provide a safe and calm environment for the students. The room is located in the C building in room C101. It is open during lunch and after school for all students. Participating in the mindfulness activities are encouraged. Students can meet with me during class if they have an immediate need. They can also make an appointment with Mrs. Blancarte in the counseling office to meet with me for non-urgent needs.

What is Mindfulness and how can we practice it?

Mindfulness is our ability to pay attention to the present moment, with curiosity and without judgement. To practice mindfulness, a formal practice such as meditation is beneficial. We can also incorporate mindfulness in our daily activities in many ways such as doing a body scan by paying attention to the physical sensations throughout our bodies, making a conscious effort to be in the present moment and noticing our five senses. 

What are the benefits of Mindfulness?

Mindfulness has been proven to:

  • Reduce symptoms of depression, stress and anxiety
  • Improve sleep
  • Increase empathy, compassion, and happiness
  • Improve our memory and helps us focus
  • Improve our ability to manage emotions
