AASA (6th-8th Grade)

Basha AMS (6th-8th Grade) Testing Dates

April 8th-10th, 2025

General Information

The AASA is the statewide achievement test for Arizona students in Grades 3-8.  All Arizona public school students in Grades 3-8 will take the grade level AASA assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics.  Chandler Unified School District will administer this computer-based test to students.

ACT ASPIRE (9th Grade Only)

April 8th and 9th 2025

ACT Aspire measures student progress toward college and career readiness as defined by the research, data, standards, and benchmarks of ACT. Based on ACT College and Career Readiness Standards, ACT Aspire assessments are consistent with many state standards that are focused on college and career readiness. Scores reflect the knowledge and skills students develop over time—across grades—and link these results to readiness for college and career, providing an evolving picture of student growth.

Benefits

  • Provides evidence-based results
  • Helps students identify areas for improvement and enrichment opportunities
  • Educators have greater visibility into specific areas of academic risk and can apply earlier intervention.
  • Efficient use of testing time reduces lost instruction time
  • Links to ACT College Readiness Benchmarks ensure a student’s path to college and career readiness is on target.
  • Leverages more than 50 years of ACT education and career readiness research for credibility, validity, and effectiveness

AZELLA

Placement testing is done at the beginning of the school year or when new students register at the school.  Based on the Home Survey, parents filled out at the time of registration.

Reassessment Testing is done from January through March.

General Information

The Arizona English Language Learner Assessment (AZELLA) is a standards-based assessment that meets both state and federal requirements to measure students’ English language proficiency. AZELLA is used for both placement and reassessment purposes. Students who have been identified as second language learners on the Home Language Survey take the AZELLA placement test, and the students’ proficiency scores determine appropriate placement for instruction. Students who have been placed into an English language learner program will also take the AZELLA reassessment once per year until they achieve proficiency. Students who have scored proficient on the AZELLA test are then monitored for two years to help ensure success after their move into a mainstream classroom.

Students are given a particular stage of the test according to their grade level.

PSAT/NMSQT

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is cosponsored by College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

College Board

The College Board reaches more than 7 million students a year, helping them navigate the path from high school to college and career. Our not-for-profit membership organization was founded more than 120 years ago. We pioneered programs like the SAT® and AP® to expand opportunities for students and help them develop the skills they need. Our BigFuture® program helps students plan for college, pay for college, and explore careers. Learn more at cb.org.

National Merit Scholarship Corporation

National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) NMSC® is an independent, not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance. NMSC conducts the National Merit® Scholarship Program, an annual academic competition for recognition and college scholarships. The PSAT/NMSQT® is the screening test for high school students who wish to participate in the National Merit Scholarship Program. If you have questions about any aspect of the National Merit Scholarship Program, including student participation requirements, the selection process, and awards offered, see the NMSC section of this publication.

How the PSAT/NMSQT Is Organized

The digital SAT Suite of Assessments uses multistage adaptive testing. Each test section (Reading and Writing, Math) is divided into two equal-length, separately timed parts, called modules. Students answer a set of questions in the first module before moving on to the next. The questions that students are given in the second module depend on how they performed on the first module. This type of adaptive testing allows for a much shorter, but just as reliable, assessment that delivers accurate scores more efficiently.

The test breaks down like this: Section Time Allotted (min.)/ Number of Questions

Reading and Writing 64/54

Math 70/44

ACT (11th Grade Only)

April 10th, 2025

CUSD uses the ACT w/ Writing for the state standards test given to all juniors.

The ACT given by CUSD is free to all juniors and the district handles all registration.

Students will be given information a couple of weeks before the test date to create an account to be able to receive their scores.  This form will be distributed in the students' English classes.  If they do not have an English class, they will pick them up at the front office.  An announcement will be made when students can pick up these forms.

Civics Exam

New Information for the Class of 2026:

  • Legislation has passed that requires the Class of 2026 and beyond to score 70 or higher on the Civics Assessment.
  • If a student graduates in 2026, and has already taken the Civics Test (and scored 60-69.9%), the student will need to retest and score a 70 out of 100 to meet graduation requirements.

The Class of 2025 (this year's senior class) will still meet graduation requirements with a score of 60 out of 100.

The Civics Assessment is based on questions taken from the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization test (which started in 2017).

The Civics Exam is given in the students' 11th grade American/US history class in November.
