A: Absolutely not.  JROTC is a citizenship program that teaches leadership, teamwork, patriotism and other valuable skills.  We want our cadets to be successful after high school and to truly appreciate what it means to be an American.  About 20%-30% of our seniors do pursue a military career either through enlistment or pursuit of a military commission through college ROTC and the military academies.

A: Yes, there is a $20 fee for the school year and is payable at the Basha HS bookstore.  Perry HS & Casteel HS Cadets will be able to pay an instructor and will receive a receipt from them during 0 Hr. 

A: Cadets receive an AFJROTC T-shirt (used for community service and field trips, etc); fees also cover supplies for physical training and offsets most extracurricular activity costs such as field trips, marksmanship, orienteering, aviation club, etc.

A:  The entire Air Force blue uniform (with black shoes) is issued free of charge with the shirt, jacket, windbreaker and trousers being returnable items when a cadet leaves the program.  Physical Training (PT) gear is also issued at no cost and consists of an Air Force t-shirt and running shorts as well as a set of sweats in the winter.  Cadets must provide their own running shoes, but get to keep all issued PT gear.  An optional camouflage uniform may be issued by the program once a cadet purchases or is issued their own combat boots (coyote brown in color).

A: Once per week.  Cadets typically are in uniform on Tuesdays for the entire school day.

A: All cadets MUST comply with Air Force grooming standards as described in our cadet handbook.  Non-compliant male haircuts (and shaving) tend to be our most common issue.  Grooming standards are located in our cadet handbook located on our website.

A:  Yes!  Three semesters of AFJROTC fulfills the one-year school PE requirement.

A:  PT is one day a week for most cadets, though 0 hr often PTs two days a week due to class time only being 45 minutes.  0 Hr cadets do not have time for showers.  Basha cadets don’t typically shower after PT unless special arrangements have been made with our BHS PE instructors. 

A:  Yes.  The bus departs PHS from the bus lane on the north side of the PHS track at 0600 each day (M-F).  It arrives at Basha in time for a 0615 class start.  The bus then departs BHS just after 0700 and returns PHS cadets to their campus for 1st hr.  Cadets may drive to BHS or be dropped off at the campus, but they must be in class by 0615.  The 0 Hr class is held each day in the D building auditorium due to class size. 

A:  Yes.  Casteel students must be dropped off at the BHS campus in time for a 0615 class start.  A bus then departs BHS for Casteel HS just after 0700 and returns CCHS cadets to their campus for 1st hr.  Cadets may drive to BHS, but they must be in class by 0615.  The 0 Hr class is held each day in the D building auditorium due to class size.

A:  Absolutely!  We typically run a ratio of 60% male cadets and 40% female cadets.  Success in our program depends entirely on individual commitment and work ethic.  As an example, 3 out of the past 6 Corps Commanders (top cadet leader for the school year) have been female cadets, and male & female cadets share an equal number of our most senior leadership positions.

A: Not even close.  What other class teaches leadership, teamwork, discipline, love of country, airpower history, personal finance, how to change a tire, marksmanship, map & compass, survival skills, and the list goes on!
