After the Ceremony

Be advised: Multiple convocation ceremonies and celebrations will take place May 10-17 on all campuses in addition to other events occurring in the same general areas. If you attend a convocation ceremony on the Tempe campus and plan to enjoy campus or visit the surrounding area afterward, please move your car to a location outside of Lot 59 (Desert Financial Arena) or Lot 3 (ASU Gammage Auditorium). This will allow other families and friends attending other events at these locations to find convenient parking. We encourage guests to check out the local shops and restaurants in Downtown Tempe, which have a wide variety of parking options available.

Large attendance at ceremonies in Desert Financial Arena and Mountain America Stadium will create traffic around these venues. Exiting parking lots and parking structures will be delayed. Your patience and cooperation is appreciated. 

What is the Clear Bag Policy?
To enhance public safety and make stadium access more efficient, Sun Devil Athletics adopted a Clear Bag Policy. Fans may bring in one (1) clear bag no larger than 12" x 6" x 12" or a 1-gallon plastic storage bag. Fans are limited to one clear bag per person, along with a small clutch or purse for privacy. Please refer to the pictures above for non-approved bags.

The Graduation Ceremony will be Thursday, May 21 @7:30PM at Desert Financial Arena @ASU.  Students are to report to the South East entrance of the football stadium concourse.  Students not present by 6:30pm will not be able to participate.  Following the graduation ceremony, all graduates will exit the arena and continue to the south lawn. 

If you choose not to participate in the graduation ceremony, please notify Chris Taylor, Mrs. Good’s assistant, as soon as possible.  Ms. Taylor can help make arrangements to pick up your diploma after May 21.  She can be contacted at 480-224-2129.

Appropriate dress for seniors at graduation

• Students should arrive at Desert Financial Arena on May 21 by 6:30pm.
• Students checked in with their line leaders.
• Students will NOT be allowed to carry any items with them (including food, drink or flowers) into the arena.
• Please leave all items with a family member before entering the arena. Staff members will be taking unauthorized items.  Confiscated items will be available at BHS the following day.
• MALES should wear dress slacks, a collared shirt (tie not required) comfortable dress shoes.
• FEMALES should wear a dress, or pants/skirt and blouse and comfortable dress shoes. Due to the amount of standing time, low heels or flats are highly recommended!!
• Mortarboards (caps) should not be altered in any way nor should anything (other than the appropriate tassel) be attached to or written on it.  Only BHS provided graduation apparel may be worn; no pins, flowers, etc. allowed. 
• Any student who appears to be under the influence of a controlled substance will not be allowed to participate in the ceremony and will fall under the jurisdiction of Tempe Police.

All CUSD high schools will be using the Cum Laude recognition program. This will replace the concept of designating a valedictorian and salutatorian at graduation. This recognition program will be used to acknowledge the most academically successful students at graduation. More of our outstanding seniors will be recognized than the valedictorian/salutatorian concept allowed. The categories for distinction under the Cum Laude recognition program are as follows:

• Summa Cum Laude - meaning "with the highest praise". To qualify, a student must achieve a 4.5 - 5.0 GPA.

• Magna Cum Laude - meaning "with great praise". To qualify, a student must achieve a 4.25 - 4.49 GPA.

• Cum Laude - meaning "with praise". To qualify, a student must achieve a 3.75 - 4.24 GPA.

Graduation practice will take place at the Senior Assembly April 16^th during conference.  During this time, a video will be shown detailing all the steps for lining up, proceeding into the graduation ceremony and walking across the stage to receive their diploma.  Students will also receive their seat assignments at this time.  The video will be made available for families following the Senior assembly. 

The traditional graduation practice held the morning of graduation WILL NOT take place.

A professional photographer from GradImages will be at the graduation ceremony to take a candid photograph of each graduating senior at the time the diploma is presented.  A free proof of this photo will be mailed to your home.  You may place orders and obtain answers to questions at www.gradimages.com.  Since professional photographs will be available, arena staff members ensure that family members and guests remain in their seats, relaxed to enjoy the ceremony.

The seating assignment information for graduation will be available April 16^th in C and F buildings and in senior classes.  If your name is not on the list, please contact Mrs. Good immediately.
